This one is on the table over there, letting the oil dry. It was pretty fun... I think it may be the first one I've done without any piercings. Anyway, it's made of cherry, and about half-way through carving it, it occurred to me that it might have been good to show some process, so I started taking pictures. I have thought a feather would be fun to carve, but could never pull myself away from spoons to try it, - until I got this commission. So, I guess this is my attempt at doing something that's not a spoon, except that it's a spoon. What can I say - I just can't help myself. Anyway, here are a few pictures, including a couple from during the process so you can kind of see how much was taken away. The one from the end is an attempt to show how I was trying to look to make sure that the quill of the feather ran in about the same place on the front, as it does on the back. (Boy, that's hard when you can't see both sides at once, and you have some neurotic resistance to using measuring tools other than your fingers!) As always, I welcome suggestions and critique!

Hi Laura, it is beautiful as usual. Did you use an oil finish? What is the overall length? Thanks for showing us. Mike |

Whooo-eeee! You moved a LOT of wood! What was the original thickness of the wood? I admire your design sense; your spoons are simple but elegant. Maybe I'll get there one day.
