| Re: Practice piece Gerry, all I did was spray lauquer on the butternut before I carved it then sprayed it again after it was carved and cleaned up. The more coats of lauquer before staining will make the surface take less stain than the cuts,

 Re: Practice piece WOW Roger; Great design!!!   VERY unique. I've looked @ a lot of different designs since I took an interest in carving (of all types) , but yours DEFINATELY stands out! GREAT JOB!!
