Default Power of the mind, project 1 & 2 now completed

I have finally completed the 2 projects that I was working on in May and It took a lot of concentration and help from the instructor to finish the Nude. I am not an artist by any means and working from pictures I found it hard to establish body porportions, and to see past shadows and find out that may be the curvatures of the body. Boy was that a lesson that hopefully I will remember in the future.
I find it hard to believe the number of talented people out that can visualize some thing and then put it to paper, canvas, or wood or many other mediums.
Thank you all for being there, and displaying your tallents and allowing your methods and finished products to be conveyed to other so We can learn from you.

project 2 Was a cobra that I started last year when I cut out a blank based on a photo. When the blank was cut out, I couldn't believe that mess would ever be a Cobra, so I threw it into a corner thinking that some day I would find a use for the wood.
In May I put the nude on pause to see if I could absorb the info overload that I had. I decided to see if I could use that blank to make some thing.
Well I started to whittle on it and chop away on it and all of a sudden the project began to take on a life of it's own and started to look like a snake, to my shock.
I figured that if it is starting to take some resemblance of a snake and I didn't have to think about the nude for a while, I would carry on.
This is now the finished cobra, the way I look at it as a novice and the way the family commented on it, I feel great.

VE3Rin, I would say you did a fine job on both carvings and it's always refreshing to see a fellow Canuck on board. Welcome to the group.

OMG Joe, I just looked at your site and your carving are fantastic. I don't think that I could ever do relief carvings with detail, let alone the detail that you have put into them.
I experimented with the carving of the first photo with some detailed drawing I believe from Ms. Irish. It was a numbered drawing so it only had 5 steps for me to follow, and that worked out well for my first attempt.
I followed Ms. Irish's instruction on makeing the Oak Leaf spirit face and it took a lot of interpratation in my mind to ge able to do it. I am now going to try to do her Acanthus leaf Oak man. I am finding it extremely hard following which step to do first and so on.
(explanation, I have had brain surgery and things don't run smoth from eye to hand)
The photo of the oak man relief is my results from her step by step instructions and photos.
Thank you for sending me the link to your post Ms. Irish
Gary

Hi ve3rin,

great job on both very difficult subjects. I can see why you put down the snaake and then picked it up when you put down the nude. I do the same thing whe I "hit the wall" on my carvings. Coincidently, I am working on a snake, just burning the skin pattern. And, I put down my "woman carrying a basket on her head" carving because I got stuck.
