Smile portrait of an old lady - wip

as i am almost finished with my flower panel, i started a new project ... as you can see from the pics, i am already a few hours in this...but only today, i found a side profile foto of the lady i am going to carve, which gives me a chance to reach my goal... i will tell you more about that lady later, in case i can manage to get some likelihood to her. otherwise, the carving will become just a carving of some old lady...
for now, i say only, that this lady was 90 years on the fotos i am using as reference. since i never met her, i collected fotos from internet, and from a biographie of her i do have. so, the situation is a little chalenging, since none of the fotos is really front, or really side, actually she seem to have prefered a certain pose, and many fotos show this one... and since this lady died in 2002 i cant ask her anymore for letting me do fotos. i hope though i can at least capture her spirit, her attitude, and this way keep her memory alive ...

Doris!!! Wonderful!!! You are barely carving and she clearly is female and elderly, just fantastic.

Get jaw and cheek lines !!!!!!

update already :-) ... worked again on the big proportions, i think i am getting closer. the side profile is good rough out, i think, however from front i need study her more, something wrong. but no problem, still lots of wood, and i can always push everything farther back...

yes, this might seem confident, as you said toffeeliz, but i think one needs be bold in the rough out phase, to get to the essential quickly. its like drawing a scetch with pencil...if one cuts slowly and anxiously, to easy one cannot see when one reaches the wanted shape, as it changes too slowly. being bold, can mean you cut wrong in beginning, and when you look the 5th and 6th image you can notice that i had pushed all, expect the nose backward, since i made right in the beginning the angle from nose to chin (pic 1 and 2) too steep. only later i got the side profile foto i noticed that mistake. but was no problem, just push everything back some mm and all is fine ...

Doris, I've been out of the loop for a few days and wanted to tell you how beautiful your WIP is turning out.
Even at this stage it has so much strength of character and is so interesting to look at. She is going to be I bet your Best Yet!
This is such a wonderful learning experience for me to following along.
Outstanding,
Kathy
