Default Phase 3 Gargoyle WIP

Took some time away from my other projects to make some more progress on the gargoyle I showed here. This is the third progress post so that's why the "phase 3". The cat jumped into one of the photos so I thought it might give you an idea of the carving size. He spends a lot of time in my shop chasing flying wood chips.
I have a lot of thinning out to do as he is still bulky looking but I started on defining some of his muscles. The only work on his head is experimenting with his mouth. His feet are roughed out, and he is on his knuckles with one hand tucked behind the other. I have to put more depth into his wings to accentuate the folds and form the top to make pointy bones...and fold skin over the bone.
The next post will hopefully show him finished. Thanks for following along as he takes shape.
Patrick

Looking good Patrick. Almost ready for detailing. It really should be quite a piece when finished. Is the cat any help? LOL

Looks great - I hope you can post a larger picture when it's ready, or maybe you have a web site or something? I'd like to see the detail closer up (well of course you could snap some detail pics as well).

Love it! It's looking very good. As everyone said,,,great pose,,terrific movement. I like the tension you have in the work,,has a bit of an intimidating air about him.He looks like he's getting ready to pounce. Just not on the cat I hope.

Thank you everyone. Looks like Bo (the kitty cat) is getting as much attention as the gargoyle. He loves to sit and watch me carve. I'm glad your interested in how the gargoyle turns out. I'll make a real effort to get better photos when he is finished. The oil will bring his details out so he'll be easier to see.
I tried to make him less static by turning his head, putting him in a crouched position, move the joints to hold different angles...and as Mark observed, give the viewer an impression that he is watchful and ready to pounce. I think Bo has been around my shop too much...it sounds like I'm discribing the cat, not the gargoyle.
