Smile peaceful moments

hi everybody :-) i have a new carving, i like to share. it is a bas relief carved in linden, 27cm x 16 cm x 2.5cm ( =about 11'' x 6.5'' x 1'' ), it is carved 1/2'' deep. ... the finish is first a very thin layer of varnish, then a stain, and then a thin layer briwax ...

as the forum is more family oriented, and the carving depicts a female nude, though very tasteful imho, i decided to present it here through the (external) link below and not as attachment. so if you not agree with looking nudity, please donīt click that link :

i hope you enjoy ... :-)

She is beautifully done Doris. Appears to be much more depth there than only 1/2 in. Nice job.

You know, it's funny - but I happen to LOVE the female nude form (yeah I know - what guy doesn't?), and I would be tempted to try my hand at carving it someday, but I'd feel a little embarassed and afraid of being accused by my family of being a dirty old man. How silly is that? Man may have been created before woman, but the design certainly improved with Man v2. ;-) [Edit - well, I guess I should say ManKIND v2]

Nicely done Doris!

Hi Doris, very considerate to include a nudity advisement. I remember Wet Canvas has the 'butt' symbol you can use if your image has nudity.
Your 'peaceful moments' is lovely and shows the beautiful lines of this female figure. Very simply done and elegant...fitting title too! Nice finish also.

hehe chuck, nice to see you again.. is quite some time ...well, how embarrassing would it be considered a woman carving felmale nude ? just dont worry about such, do what you feel you want to. carving with sentiments are always best :-) ... (i dont understand your comment with man v2 , or mankind v2 ? english language problem, i guess)

kathy, well you know, hearing from a woman, that you like my carving, is even better :-) ... yes that what you call "simply done" was the most difficult part :-) i am so glad you noticing that :-)

thank you both for nice comments, so glad you like :-)

Doris, very nicely (tastefully) done, it sure is a peacefull momment, dang, if I wasn't 77 years of age I'd ask you to send me the models address, (oh hell, send it anyway) smile. Great carving, you can be proud of that one.

Knife cuts are fine on most things, but in my opinion, your carving would be even better if she was sanded smooth...not the background....just my opinion, its still a very good carving.

Nice work, Doris! Thanks for handling it the way you did!

Interesting note, Dave! I agree the the large, wide facets look better on a male figure than a female figure. I wonder if Doris could use an even flatter gouge (I'd use my Chris Pye #2 1/2) to smooth it out a little more...(did I mention I hate sanding <GRIN>)...or even use a cabinet scraper to smooth it out a bit.
