| | Pacific salmon going upstream to spawn Hi gang,
Yes I am inspired I dont know whether it is because spring is just around the corner and the sky here in the great white north is blue every day now. Maybe it is because of my new found interest in the art of the west coast. What ever it is I find that every minute I get now I am inspired to create something different. You have seen my Haida Moon this inspired me to do something different and do a burning of a picture on the other slab or poplar that I have. This is a burning (Haida style) of a spawning salmon going upstream, traversing the rocks and rapids in its way. My own interpretation not anything I have seen except the salmon is traditional to the Haida peoples. I plan some other things for the burning perhaps the sun and an otter or hummingbird not sure yet. It is only in its initial stages. I will post as I create more

| | Re: Pacific salmon going upstream to spawn Love the way you have successfully mixed your own style into the influence of the NW area artwork style. The colors are wonderful.
Great work.

| | Re: Pacific salmon going upstream to spawn Thanks for the positive comments this is just an update I have included some other things into the picture. Again I want to impress that this is certainly not traditional art of the Haida people. It is my own interpretation of how I view it. I have studied and read a lot about their art and culture and tried to do my own thing. I have learned a lot about the colors they use. Red is life, black is death, blue is water, green is grass and forrests etc. Most Haida art is in red and black sybolizing life and death. They do not burn the formline on first this again is my own additive. Thanks for looking

| | Re: Pacific salmon going upstream to spawn Well here it is finally finished I added an otter chasing dinner and the sun. All of it is first burned and then painted. It is approximatly 2 feet long and 18 inches high and the wood is Balsum Poplar slab about 2 iches thick. The painting is acrylic and finished with a clear laquer.
