Default Oklahoma Centennial Project

I had posted some bits and pieces of this project previously and some of you wanted to see the whole thing, so, here it is. This natural edge catalpa bowl is roughly 12"x12". The pics were taken before I applied the final finish because I always have problem with hot spots, etc when I photograph a piece with an oil finish. This piece is finished with BLO and three types of danish oil and is semi glossy. It is fairly heavy and weighs about 12 lbs. Note the "special" inlay in the bottom of the bowl. Also, in the bottom, the center hole has a 2007 penny inserted to denote the year it was finished. If the bowl hasn't sold, and I doubt that it will be, by the time the Oklahoma quarter comes into circulation, I will rebore the center hole and install one of those.

I took this to the Tulsa show last weekend and entered it in the carved turning category where it took a blue ribbon.

Great job! Congratulations on the blue ribbon. I especially like the "OKLA RED DIRT"

Congratulations for a well deserved blue ribbon. It certainly is a fine piece as well as interesting. Thanks for showing it to us.
