Default OK only if you promise not to laugh

Hi Gang,
I have just been given a commission, a lady wants an old salt for her husband for Christmas. They have a large boat and sail all summer on it. I have never carved an old salt before and may never carve another. This is about an hour rough out with a chainsaw. The carving stands almost 4 feet high and 8 inches in diameter. It is done in white cedar. This is very rough and I will include pictures if you promise not to laugh. Ron for your information the sailor has on a souwester hat and jacket he has a smile on his face his hands are in his pockets and he has on pants with large wellington type boots. His Jacket is 3/4 length and open in the front. He will have a pipe in his mouth and his head is turned and he is looking out to sea.
Colin

He is one happy camper, big smile, and has the queen mothers hat. No wonder he is so happy. Can't wait to see him finished. Good job. !!

Great beginning Colin. I can see the Skipper in it already! I'm looking forward to seeing this one progress!

Impressive. Looks like the Mike Shipley pattern. So exactly how does one go about making a 4ft pattern?

I think he will turn out just fine as with all your other projects. Don't be so hard on yourself. Can't see him but what everyone else said looks great!

I don't see any reason to laugh. You've already done the hard part of roughing out and it looks good. Now the real fun starts.
