| | Now I understand When I started this carving (posted as Rearing Horse thread under WIP), at the SDC seminar last spring, I told several carving friends my intentions. Responses ranged from "your crazy" to "are you sure you want to do that?"
Ignored all of this good advice. Well the other day I decided to work on the burning part as well as continuing with the carving part.
Now I understand! The mane, tail and feathers were not too bad. Used a 1 & 2 mm #11 and then burned with a curved endpiece.
But a horse's coat is short and flat. Greatly underestimated the time it would take to use a sharp endpiece, go over the entire horse (16" with 4 sides!) while making 1/8 inch strokes. But, now I'm committed to doing the burning and probably should be committed otherwise!
Estimate that I have 4 to 5 hours in already. Tried turning on the TV and doing it in the evenings. The monotony of repetition makes me fall asleep......with the burner in place. Makes a dark burn. Well, at least that's better than letting it drop in my lap!
Think I will use an older scotch brite piece to clean the burns. Seems like a good idea to make sure I don't wipe out all of this work. |

| | Re: Now I understand It will turn out just fine Paul. Just take your time and remember patience. When I get on a project that is too repitious I go and work on something else for a change and then go back too it. Ron |

It is a very realistic look, and I take it, that's what you were going for.
Keep us posted.
