| | Norse design This is a piece I drew out last evening, and started carving this morning. It isn't terribly complicated, but I really needed a break from another carving I'm working on. This isn't finished yet...more clean up. I will carve runes into the Midgard serpent that say "Eternal Life", becaues that is what the shield symbol means, and carve his eye deeper to show up better.
I was going to carve a bear on a mountain in this wonderful piece of basswood, but I just couldn't make myself do it. It just had to be Norse. It may never sell, but I needed to carve something fun.

| | Re: Norse design Just an update.
Thanks for the comments. It is a very rough carving. I painted it with oil colors and boiled linseed oil. I used traditional colors used by the Vikings on their rune stones 1000 years ago.

| | Re: Norse design Very nice Christina! I visited your web site and LOVE your work. I too am very interestedin medieval & renaissance re-enactment and would love to develop my carving to a point where I could market them at ren fests.
So are you the owner of the funkychickenartproject? If so - WOW! It looks awesome!!! Loved the whole web site and all the art work. How do you ever find time to carve all that you carve, and collect pheasants & roosters etc., AND create and run FCAP, AND restore old trailers, AND stay sane???
VERY impressive if this is all your doing!
Anyway - thanks for sharing your carving.

ChuckT | HI Chuck, and thanks for your comments. Yes, my husband, James Sargous and I own and operate the Funky Chicken Art Project. It's a full time life style/business all rolled into one. I never said we were sane, by the way.
Our next big project will be building a small house behind the gallery after we sell the house we raised the kids in. They are all grown and gone, so it's time.
I have a carving table right behind my computer desk and spend time carving to keep me sane enough. I just wish I had more time to go study under folks in far way places to get better.
The folks I do a lot of commission work for are medieval re-enactors. They don't spend much, but they do appreciate the very themes and subjects that I like to carve. Good luck with the Ren Faire's Highland games and Scottish themed gatherings are another source to consider for patrons.
