| | New tree carving I know maybe I should throw my hat in first it has been for ever since I have really posted anything. Finally the snow has gone and spring has arrived in Canada. Seeing that I havent carved a thing since before Christmas I thought it was time for me to get out the chainsaw and chisels again. Fact is that the phone is ringing off the hook for me to do tree carvings so here is the first one of 2007. What the gentleman did is take a huge eastern white cedar and turned it upside down with the root ball sticking up. He planted the tree about six feet into the ground. Then he put a roof on top of the root ball. The tree is about ten feet tall and about two feet across. What he uses it for is to hang the oat bucket for his horse and on the other side a teather hook. It is so that the horse can get in out of the sun on hot days. The entire carving took me just over four hours to complete. For Ron's sake the carving is of a woodspirit with his mostache and beard blowing to the left. The actual face and beard are probably about eight feet tall. I have to price another two carvings tomorrow and also stain this one. I will post pictures of the finished carving.

I like your spirit for sure. With the roots showing and from a distance, looks like his hair. Really nice Colin.
BTW, Glad you are back carving and posting. You have been missed. |

| | Re: New tree carving Nice to see you haven't lost your touch son! Great having you post again too. That whole concept of the inverted tree is a great idea, I'm just hoping the spirit doesn't scare the crap out of the horse.
Welcome back Colin,
