Default new spoon

Hello! I worked this this afternoon and I wanted to share!
This spoon is 1 in a set of 3. I carved it from Madrone. I am donating the set to a silent auction this weekend. It will benefit a local loved one who has just found out she has Cancer. I am very pleased to have been asked to participate!
For some time now I have been wanting to ask for some advice and have been quite nervouse to do so-You never know what you'll get once you open those gates! I really do want to learn to be a better carver...so here goes!
I really admire all the work I see on this forum and I highly respect anything you may have to tell me. Just one favor...lol...if you are going to tell me how bad it is and how much you don't like it...please don't! !

The rich color of the spoons are quite nice as well as your detailing. I've been anxious to try some Irish Love Spoons but never seem to get around to it. The auction is a great cause. I've donated a number of carvings to auctions and the carvers work is always appreciated. Thanks for sharing.

My first spoons were love spoons. I Just Love them! I made a bunch of 'em as gifts and I adored them...but my practical side seems to always win me over! I have taken the Love Spoon ...and tried to put it on my servicable kitchen spoons.
Giving them away is so much more fulfulling than selling them!
Thank you so much for the comments! It means very much to me!

I think your spoon is a great piece..I like the dark woods..gives it something extra....good work.. Fear not for criticism, ones that critisize either dont have the same talent or are jealous of your acheivement..

What Bill and Patrick both said. As you probably know, I'm fairly new to this great hobby, this site and all the great friends I have made in a very short time. I am however "very experienced in life" having lived 77 years worth. My eye site is good, I'm of sound mind and when I see something I like, I say I like it. "I like your spoon", I think it has a primitve look to it and there ain't nothin wrong with that. Keep carvin gal, yer doin just fine.

I see nothing wrong with your spoon. In fact I love the design very much. How big is it?

That is a nicely done spoon, great decorations carved on it. Nothing to be disappointed about Keoma, that should go well at the auction.

Very nice work, and a great design! I've had some fun carving small spoons out of exotics using pen blanks. That gives me a chance to work with some woods I wouldn't normally get access to.

Hi ya'll! Thank you so much for your kind words! I realize my carving needs some work, but I thank you so much for your bolstering! I wish I knew how to make the leaves um...not so flat? Any ideas? They always look 2D to me... Something that comes with practice I guess No problem there, I plan on doing it for a long long time!
The spoon is I think 9-10 ". I will post pictures of the rest of the set when I am finished. It has a longer spoon and a scoop as well as a leaf to hang on the wall with the utensils hanging from it. These are my best sellers at craft fairs, so I thought It would be good to donate. Never give away something you don't like yourself ,right? I adore my spoons, you'd think I would have some in my kitchen wouldn't you? Oh well, "A Cobblers son"and all that!
Thank you again!
