| | New saw new bear :>) Thought I would post this shot of a bear I am working on in the rough-out stage. I bought a new Husky 372xp and made short order of this log. Made the paw too small but I think I can fix it. Hope you like it.
The platform the bear is holding is for a pot of flowers....

| | Re: New saw new bear :>) Greg, Oh yea, I like it. Do chain saw carvers have to worry a lot about the fuzzies? Sorry, I just had to ask...That's going to be a very nice, not so little bear. What's that in the background? Boat?? Thanks for sharing.

I've always been amazed at how you macro carvers can take an old tree and turn it into a piece of art. What size chain does it take to do a carving like you've done?

Eddy s, you can do the rough out with a 20" chainsaw the detail work is best done with a 12" dime tip carving bar.
Thanks for the comments, I look forward to finishing the carving.
Fuzzies - YES I do get them but I have an easy cure for them, it is called a propane torch. When the carving is done it use the torch to bring out the contrast of the fir and to get rid of the dreadded fuzzies.

| | Re: New saw new bear :>) Looks like the making of a nice bear! I like the idea for him holding up a pot of flowers... or could that be an "angelic" bear with a halo over his head?
Can't wait to see it finished!

| | Re: New saw new bear :>) Hello from an ex-bear carver
I live in Big Bear Valley, Ca. and have carved about 363 bears.
I also have a Husky 372XP. When compared to my previous saws it was almost a religious experience.
My wife told me "You are over 70 years old and it is time to quit playing with chain saws". I now have to be satisfied with my bird carving activities.
Keep up the good work.
