You'll have to look a little harder to see todays progress. I worked on undercuting most of the day.

Hey Dylan ... just a beautiful start. The undercuts are perfect!!!!! But you know I love shadows.

And the complexity of the foreground foliage is going to be spectacular.

Now ... I could be very wrong as I do not have the reference photos or drawings you are working with for this relief. I am wondering if your angle on the front lintel to the bridge is correct ??? With a low horizon line, below the middle, and an upward visual angle into the mouth of the bridge I think that you might want to be a bit more square ???

Now it could just be the angle of your photo of the carving ... but you might want to put the carving on a shelf at your eye level and check that lintel ... But right now I feel as if the back wall (unseen wall) of the bridge is collapsing.

Here's the reference photo that I've been working from Susan. Tell me what you think because I'm not sure I'm following what you're saying. I've drawn in where I would think the horizon line would be. If anything the eve needs to move up.

AHH! You're Good!!!

I read that as a hip roof barn and the stone wall as the road line going into the opening of the bridge. What I saw looked as if the horizon line was much lower.

Excellent!!!!

One of the reasons that I like to work off photos is that you know that the perspective is right, all you have to do is carve it the same as the photo. I like the way you found the horizon line, I'll keep that in mind for later use.

Hmmm...Hip roof...hate to disagree , but a hip roof slopes on all four sides, looks more like a Gable roof to me.
From the actual bridge photo, the vertical wall at the entrance is only vertical half way up then slopes out to provide a bigger over hanging Gable at the the bridge entrance, hope that is understandable..
Looks like a great relief carving is well on it's way.

Old Gord ... as I had said in my first post I didn't have Dylan's reference photo. His perspective is dead on correct now that I can compare the two.

For some reason I did not see straight walls with wings to support the out thrust roof line. What I saw in the rough-out was a hip roof and when I followed the angles I came up with a much lower horizon line. If it had been a hip the sides of the bridge would have been low also. Now that low horizon line would have meant you were looking up into the rafters of the bridge almost to the roof center.

As I said to Dylan when I asked "I could be very wrong". I was. However, if I was correct with that low horizon it would be much easier to adjust at his rough-out stage than have it show up later in the carving ... so I asked.
