| | Re: New projects. Progress continues on Captain John, slowly. Doing this carving gives me a greater appreciation for those gifted carvers we have on here that make it look so easy! Lynn's many cowboys comes to mind, and they are always perfect, the features so clear and the impression immediate. Yes, and there are many others here that make their santa's, or birds, or faces, so perfect each time, we tend to take it for granted. Until we stumble into their area of expertize and give it a try! A humbling experience. Thank you one and all for sharing your talent with us and by doing so allowing us to spread our wings a little further.

| | Re: New projects. Bob... It looks good to me. Are you going to piece in some wood so that you'll have an entire wheel?

| | Re: New projects. Progress is slow on the Captain, I did add that piece to fill the wheel and will carve and add the spoke. Got the second hand roughed out. Love Butternut for carving, it's such a smooth wood to carve.

| | Re: New projects, Captain John. I've still been picking away at this project, little by little, and making some slow progress. I have been learning as I go along and want to try some different techniques when I get down to detail. For example: I want to get the cloths hanging right, with folds and creases and want to get the texture of the various clothing articles right. Lots to think about, lots of challenges.
As usual, all suggestions, pointers and critiques, greatly recieved.

| | Re: New projects, Captain John. Hey Bob, I'm glad I followed the complete post here. When I first seen it with part of the wheel missing I had my doubts, but hey, you came thru and he is lookin really great, that's quite an undertaking and it looks like you're gonna pull it off just fine. Great job from a fellow Canuck.
