Default New Project No. 2

This is a little outside my box but is something I really want to do well. This is a roughout that Ash and Goody(Decoycarve) made for me. I sent Ash a Stiller pattern that I had blown up to the size of my Boston Terrier. I don't know if you remember but I about lost her earlier this year to a bone marrow disease. She is holding her own now with the help of steriods and some other expensive drugs. But I wanted to carve a statue of her to remember by. The wood is Paulonia. I took several pictures in case I didn't get her all in the first shot it's kind of tricky when you don't see the subject. I also have plans to carve a statue of Lou my guide dog. Can't leave him out.
Ron

Excellent start. I'll be watching your progress too.
Cute little dog. Boston terriers have such personalities.

Can't wait to see this one finished! I love dogs and have been wanting to do a carving of my dog. Please keep posting pictures of it as you progress.

Also, that is one heck of a shop!! So many tools!! I love the way they are all neatly stored and in reach.

With your sense of touch you shouldn't have any problem carving in the round. I also love your work area...maybe you can lend me some tools.

Well here is an update on the Boston Terrier that I started. I had a case of insomnia is seems like so I carved all week on it. I started the painting yesterday. I masked off what I thought was her white areas as I remembered with some painters masking tape that is not supposed to take the paint when you pull it off. I then painted the black which was an adventure in itself. Have you ever tried to paint something with your eyes closed. I then put new tape against the existing and the removed the previous reveiling the white area. I know it sounds complicated but it's the only system I could come up with and it worked pretty good. The eyes were the hardest part for me because what I normally do to set eyes is I use what are called map pins (some short ones about a half inch long) and I set them where I think the eyes should line up. Well on a boston terrier the eyes set out on the side somewhat so it took me awhile to get them where they are now. I hope they are Ok nobody is around to help be my eyes. The eyes are also kind of bugged out too. I still want to try and do something with the feet as far as the claws but need to let this dry good. Let me know what you think I can still correct things is I need too. Look back at the first post and see if they look anything alike. Thanks for your comments they are all greatly appreciated good or bad.
Ron
