Default New Painted Carving

This carving was done last year, I just finished painting it so I thought I'd post it here to show. One of the best way to protect an outside carving is to keep the sun off of it, there's no better way than a solid color. This is a solid latex stain. I hope this incurages some carvers out there to do the same, a lot of people say they'd rather the natural wood look, I guess sometime color will work. The customer was real pleased with the results.

Very nice carving, and the paint job turned out really well for you. You have some hardy stems on them bullrushes...I expect that will keep them from getting broken with any young ones around.

Thanks again everyone for the nice comments. with this one most of the cutting was with a chainsaw, several actually. I use my bigger saw to rough shape the piece and work down to a dime tip saw, you can see where that would be used, like the grass and in the neck of the Heron. I'm sure some of you know, but for those who don't, you can take a dimetip carving bar and plunge cut through wood with out much kickback. it's a must have tool for this type of work.

anyway, thanks again for the incuraging and kind remarks.

Bruce

Hi Bruce, I really like all of your work on your web page, and the paint on this one really completes it to me.
Do you ever attend chainsaw competitions or demonstrations? or just work on commissions and your own ideas there at your studio? REally nice work!
