| | Need suggestions on a WIP I had a wild hair brain that I was going to stain this piece with a English Oak but I was not happy with how it cam out. Too light color. Need suggestions on what to do next, Paint, darker stain or leave as is and finish with a couple coats of Deft or Watco wax? BTW, I did not wipe any stain off of this piece.
Up to y'll at this point.
Thanks |

| | Re: Need suggestions on a WIP Kenny, its a great carving and as you said just a little light. I'm a firm believer in Watco Danish Oil which hardens the wood and they have a dark walnut I use on lighter pieces. Just a thought.

| | Re: Need suggestions on a WIP Hi Kenny, good job on Carving, I like him. I feel Darker is better, and would give it NICE WARM look . Watco Dark Wax is my preference. Merle |

| | Re: Need suggestions on a WIP Kenny ,
you could take a brush and lightly stain him with a thin walnut , or use your antique , to darken the creves and then wipe it off, should give a nice shadow effect . If you look at stonewall , I like the rich color . Nice carving !

| | Re: Need suggestions on a WIP Thank you to all who responded to my question. I appreciate the time each one of you took to give me some great suggestions. My NA will be put on hold till I can get some Watco Dark Wax as There is none locally here in Caney or in Bartlesville so a trip to Tulsa Ok is planned.
Thanks again. I appreciate it. |

| | Re: Need suggestions on a WIP Hi Kenny, I like your carving very much it has lots of character. I agree with the Watco Dark Wax it would give it a nice antique look. It would bring out your deeper carving lines and I think add depth to your carving.
I hope you will share your solution with us. We all run into that time when something we do doesn't meet our expectations. I have plenty of times! LOL

I like him a lot! I agree, if you don't want to hold on to him, I have a nice place here in Tennessee where I could display him for you! I think the dark Watco will do him some good. I use it a lot and really like the way it brings out some of the facial features. I think you will enjoy it. I pick mine up at woodcraft if you can't find it anywhere else.
Good job my friend!

I must say, this carving is one of the best ones I've seen you do. Now, I like your Santa's and the Lonesome dove piece is still my favorite, but you've really accomplished a good expression with this one.
I look forward to seeing it again with a darker finish.
Really good carving. That's another one to be proud of.
