How about....

Carving in some round xmas balls and maybe a garland that zig zags down the tree. Light wash those in color...and then just leave the tree plain? You'd get the feeling of color from the decorations, and yet can see the grain of the tree.

Or put in a few red cardinals...light washed red.

Thomp, you are correct. It seems that when I stitched the natural one to the washed one, I stitched the same one. Did not realize it till I read your post. Yep , I still have problems taking pictures for sure. I will have a picture of the washed one with a dry brushed coat of forest green on it. I am satisfied a little more with it but not totally. I will take a picture of the latest one and stitch it to the washed one to show a difference. Again, I am not a painter, never claimed to be and still like the natural wood tone.

ken it looks a little darker than i thought it would be but it still came out fine,

string up the popcorn and turn on the lights and ice cycles its ready to decorate..

looks good to me,.
you going to put on some snowtex or leave it plane?

i think you could use snow tex on a toothpick to make popcorn garlin i think...

or string up styrofoam peanuts like we use for outside trees

Thomp, Funny you show say the "Sno Tex" for garland. I have one drying as I type on using "Sno Tex" for the garland. Kind of looks like popcorn for sure. Have a couple more that I painted God dots for Bulbs and the other with silver. Little bride like the Gold one the best,so, That one goes on her tree. Will put up pictures when they are dry.

BTW, I use toothpicks to put the "Sno Tex" on with.

I been thinking about super micro mini ornaments,
like the popcorn garland, on a string, that the puff paint could be used to make the bulbs on a string,
if you put the string over a sheet of wax paper it shouldn't stick to the wax paper. and if you get the micro tips for the puff paint or use injection needles
you could decorate the bulbs or make gingerbread cookie ornaments.. for the miniature trees..

don't ask me why i come up with all this help full Useless suggestions, my mind thinks about all that stuff while i'm trying to do other things like cut a finger off. while I'm carving.......

but like Lynn said the great base makes a great carving and the ornaments on a tree where a Santa was carved would really make it pop.
