Will do Keoma,,,but I would like to see if Jator responds as this was his original question so I'd like to see if he has a particular request as to size or selection of tools for me to use.

If not I'll take any other request using anything from a # 3,5,7,8,9,or 11. ( Swiss numbers) Just pick one and I'll carve the same bowl with just one tool. Each one could easily carve this same shape.

As long as it's not a flat chisel,,or a V,,and not a hook or scorp,,any of the ones I listed will do the best job with the most versatility I feel.

Lets see which he picks. If he doesn't then it's up to you Keoma.

Plus for fun,,here are 3 more examples except I used different woods. They are Oak ( too grainy for a usable spoon) Cherry and another species of Walnut,,either English or American,,don't remember which this was.
I carved these using the same #5 chisel,,same bevel,,same everything. All went just fine,,,the walnut being the easiest and cleanest of the three.None of these have been sanded. Didn't use a router,,didn't drill for depth,,,no power to hog out wood,,,no mallets even though it's a full size chisel,,,just started carving,,it's all you need.

So pick a wood as well. My choice,,,the original Walnut.

I finished the bowl a couple min. ago. I used a gouge, one of the few tools I have right now. Anyways I'm not sure how to clean it up, I sanded it a little bit. The darker spots are just water.

Also, I noticed walnut has a very strong smell to it, Will this smell fade in time? I don't really want all of our food tasting like walnut.

EDIT: Thanks for your posts mark, and everybody else.

I posted this tutorial in our Carver's Gallery a couple of years ago. Mike

There you go Jator,,you did great! Looks to be about a # 5 or so fishtail that you used. See...just go at it and look at what you can do!

You saved me some work there Mike,,good tutorial. I'll still carve it if anyone wants,,but Mike has it covered.
