Default Mystery vessel is revealed.

Sorry to keep you in suspense folks. But it's for a good cause. Let me tell you the story.

A few weeks ago I got a call from our small local book store, asking for my advice. It seems, there is a new book being released, "Steam Lion, the Biography of Sir Samuel Cunard" and the publisher is holding a contest in conjunction with the Cunard Line, the shipping line that Sir Samuel founded. The contest is for the best window display to help launch the book. They knew of my ships and the sea passion and asked if I had any suggestions for a display.

It so happened, that the day before they called, the actual book launch had taken place in Halifax, and a friend of mine attended, by invitation, because he had supplied some of the research information for the author. While Samuel Cunard was born and raised in Halifax, his brother Jospeh had been sent up here (by older brother Samuel) in the early years and founded a timber, shipbuilding and merchantile empire. My friend had brought me home a copy of the book and on the cover was/is a beautiful image of the first trans-Atlantic steamer in the Cunard fleet, R.M.S. Britannia.

So.... I had a great idea ..... a quick and dirty model of the Britannia for the display(almost finished), and Ken (my friend) wanted to help too, would supply some genuine artifacts of the period from his collection. We want the store to win, they are really nice folks who run it, so we jumped in with both feet to help out.

The secrecy was so not to tip our hand to any possible competators. Not enough time left now for someone else to build a model for their window and steal our idea...... I hope. Besides, you wouldn't say anything, will ya!

I hope they win! The prize is a trip for two aboard the Queen Mary 2 across the Atlantic! I'd love to see them go. Keep your fingers crossed folks, I'll keep you posted on the outcome!

Bob

I volunteer to take the Queen Mary cruise so it doesn't cause a conflict there! Ice Cream

Great stuff mate sounds like a wonderful project. I really hope you win that would be awsome to sail on the Queen Mary across the Atlantic. I did it twice once on the HMCS Arcadia and once on the Rhinedam (Maybe not the spelling) both trips were a long time ago but I remember loving being at sea.

Bob,

Fantastic efforts, and after the store wins, I hope the management takes into consideration your true 100% involvement and hands the prize over to you, well deserved too, but from learning about you through your posts on this board, your not helping them for yourself, you really want the store to win for your community support. Good luck with the project and yes would love for you to post a finally picture of the window display. Bill
