Good Morning! I wanted to show you how they turned out! I am trying to finish up some for Easter today...after my boys science project O' Course! I have to recomend you guys trying these! SO MUCH FUN! I am giving my sweet baby nieces baby shower the end of May, I am making all the gifts for the guests. I was going to make combs and my tea, but I am now going to make a pile of baby themed cookies, you know Storks and stuff (any baby ideas welcome!) I will have a platter of lovelie cookies and the 4 Grandmas will get the moulds. Grandmas need cookie moulds, this I know! What quick easy gifts these are! I wanted to make a bunch to sell, but I so love giving them away instead! I can think of a dozen people right offthe bat who need one of these! Have Fun! Make fun! Give Fun! Off to bake more cookies...my heart is happy and my hips are irratable...good thing my jeans are loose!

Great idea and nicely done, if ya make some chocolate chip cookies I could always use a dozen or so, even better if they look real purty,.

Keoma:
Based on post #1, I was just about to ask if you carved the design into the wood, or carved away the background so the design sticks out... But, post#21 shows me that the design is carved in on both. I think it's interesting how the hollowed out relief can sometimes appear to be bas-relief, depending on the lighting.

Great work on those presses! I may have to try one of those also...

Claude
ps: do you share the shortbread recipe?

I noticed that this recipe is almot identical to the recipe that Doris sent me a link to. So I imagine it works just fine! Enjoy! I can't wait to see the ones you make!

Scottish Shortbread Cookies
· 1 1/2 cups margarine or butter
· 3/4 cup sugar
· 1-2 teaspoon almond flavoring

(Lemon also tastes Sublime!)
· 4 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions:
· Cream the butter, sugar and flavoring in a large bowl.
· Stir in 1 1/2 cups of flour, 1/2 cup at a time. Mix well. Beat until light and fluffy. Knead in remaining flour.
Shape dough into smooth balls and refridgerate for several hours. I usually put them in overnight.
Shape into balls big enough to flatten with the size press you made. I trim whatever squishes out the edge

· Bake about ten to 25 minutes in a preheated oven set at 325 degrees, until the center of the cookie is firm to the touch but not hard.
A hard icing goes really yummy with these and looks great too. Spread it on the BACK of the cookies

Oy! I forgot to tell you! THE BIG DIFFERENCE!!! Dip your press into your vat of flour so everything is coated...then knock it all off on the sides of said vat. What is left will be just a breath of a flour coating. This is all you need for them to not stick. All you cake bakers out there will know this secret already!
Best of Luck!

Ha Ha HA Merle...very funny Maybe next time just put the cookie in the oven? I recommend re-using your press! That will make me smile all day!
Here is a new one. My boys said they wanted to make easter cookies. Ok, Easter cookies it is!
As you can see, it is much smaller than my first two. I think I will make most of them this size.

This is very inspiring. I'm glad to see the successful cookies too. I think I need to make some for gifts as well.
Great thread you have started Keoma.

Yummmm cookies. Thats a great idea for a gift. My wife has hinted that she might try chip carving sometime but I think she might be even more interested in making some cookie presses.
