Default my brother...back in the day :D

This is an ornament I carved this morning for my baby brother. He is 25...or 26? now. BAck in the day he was sooo coool. Ha! Anyway, he had a mullet, and spikey top hair. Ha(((I am in a fit of giggles thinking how cool he was))) The real clincher to his extra cool ensemble of blue jeans and a t shirt was his shoes. My dad ALWAYS bought us those cheapy shoes from Payless...that back then were not so cool! They were XJ900's. Anyone remember them? Well this doll/ornament is a tribute to not only my sweety but to those shoes! They would look good for ohhhh about untill you wore them outside! Then, the dirt never came off, the laces would be hopelessly stained, the seams would get gross and split. As if that were not bad enough...the heels always fell off! As a parent, I understand about supporting a family and having to buy the cheapest shoes, and as a sister, well it always gives us something to look back on and laugh about. Its crazy...he and I both have a terrible shoe fetish! You would think 17 people lived at my house by all the shoes on the porch!
So, I'd like you all to meet my Brother,Matty. He is carved out of Oak and is about 5" tall. He is dressed in his stretched out non fitting t shirt and his pegged jeans. The sole has also "fallen off" his shoe. It is hinged with a wire, just like his arms.
Merry Christmas!

Hello Keoma,
Nice piece of folk art! Is it for your brother as a gift?
I hope you have followed the recomendation I made a little while ago. I mentioned your art dolls to the lady who made that same recomendation to me many years ago and she agreed with me that the person I told you to contact, would just go wild over your dolls.
Best wishes for a happy Holiday

Thank you SusieQ! I plan on writing to her next week, after things slow down a tad. Yes, this is his Christmas gift...this and a jar of pickles. He wants a doll...but the timing was just not right, so had to scale down. Thank you again for your insight! I am actually quite anxious to write her. I have been looking for an outlet for a long time. The thought of rejection is tough, but not so hard to overcome. I think I was born with more than one persons quota of initiative!

Wow, that's really a neat carving! I'm WAY past the 25-26 year old era, but those pegged jeans and T shirt were the "Fonzie" style of my day. And the spiked mullet was preceeded by the flat-top, duck-tail cut, which wasn't really a whole lot different. It bugged our parents just as much! hehehe.

Only back in the 50's there would have been a pack of Luckies, Lucky Greens or Camels rolled into the T shirt sleeve. Not very health consious today, but it was all about "style" more than health, right?

Thanks for posting that "memory jogger" Keoma!

Al

This is my finished ornament for my brother and I decided to make one for my niece as well. She just found out she was pregenate so this is her "My first Christmas Pregenate" ornament. She is a Sweet little Goth Angel with big feet...So I love the Converse! I think I will sand them a bit and then antique them with some instant coffee before I give them. Thank you for all your great comments! These little sizes are so fun!!! Is it just me or is everything cuter when it is in miniature?
