| | Mushroom Woodspirit Hi Gang,
Guess what another commission. I just cant get a weekend off. I was trying to sleep in this morning when 7.15 my phone rang. It was an landscape architech wanting to know if I could carve some mushrooms for a garden in an estate residence. Trouble is that that they want them yesterday. I have a tree day time frame to get them done as well as a huge double face carving (One on each side of a huge slab of maple). These are in a magical garden path in this huge estate. She told me to use my imaginaton that the client has seen my faces and wondered what I could come up with. Here is the roughout of a mushroom. It is white pine and stands about two half feet high. Do you think I should put a face on both sides or just the one side? This is just one of three that he wants for now.

| | Re: Mushroom Woodspirit Colin, Great lookin spirit. I'd vote for just one spirit per mushroom. Are you going to do a spirit/face in a Morrel mushroom? That would really be neat. And I know you can handle commissions that are needed yesterday. Tom H |

| | Re: Mushroom Woodspirit Thanks Tom,
I agree completly one face that was what I was thinking also. I think two may be a little over kill. I dont know if I will make the mushroom a morel that it a pretty complicated mushroom to carve. about morels I havent seen them in years but I remember they were awful good to eat. Here is a roughout of my second mushroom. This one about the same dimentions but done in eastern white cedar. I carved the top seperate from the stem will have to see if I like it that way when I put it together.

| | Re: Mushroom Woodspirit Kewel Mushrooms. They tell me they really pack a wallup when smoked.
Btw, One per side unless the person wants one coming and going. The second one looks the best shape. |

| | Re: Mushroom Woodspirit One per mushroom is my vote. If your client is wanting something else perhaps you could consider a symbol or some other form of carving. I like the mushroom idea. If you have more to go, try pulling the top down a little farther to see if it can double as a cap. Great carvings.
