| | Mt Man Update Just an update on the Mt. Man mask I’ve been working on. Most everyone knows this is from Marks G’s tutorial, but for those that don’t check it out in the Tutorials forum. These are the first eyes I’ve done with the ring around the iris and a hole for the pupil. On the right eye (our left) I used a diamond bur to cut out the ring, basically because I was afraid to use gouges in the tight space. On the left eye (our right) I got up the nerve to give the gouge a try and the results speak for it’s self. The gouge is way easier and with much better results. Because the gouge leaves a V bottom and the rotary tool leaves a flat bottom the eye carved with the gouge has a darker shadow and a better shape even though the eye cut with the bur is deeper. I think the finish will fix that though. Old Wrinkled Eyes I also wanted to try making more of the fine wrinkle lines in the skin around the eye and face so I tried using a stylus or burnishing tool (I think that is what they are called) basically it is a dowel with a metal shaft coming out of each end with a small ball on the end. I used this to dent the wood hoping to create a subtle wrinkled look. I think it came out all right I guess. The only area’s left to do are; finishing the shirt and neck line, obviously the hair, a little more work on the hat and add the feather Thanks for looking |

| | Re: Mt Man Update I was wondering when we were going to hear from you again Tony. He's turning out really well. Your wrinkles are very subtle. It will be interesting to see how the oil brings them out. The eyes certainly get your attention. Even though the carving is different than your Native Indian, you can see hints of your style of carving. Well done.

I agree that the gouge-carved eye looks better. The wrinkles are a stroke of genius!

| | Re: Mt Man Update Yep - I agree with what everyone has posted. The wrinkles worked out really well I think. I don't notice the difference in the eyes in the first pic, but I do in the second. It'll be interesting to see how the wrinkles look after finishing.
Great job!!
