Default Mountain Man - WIP

I have been on the board a little while now and I enjoy it tremendously. Cudos to Bob and Shannon for all you do. I haven't posted any of my work because I didn't have a decent digital camera. Well we planned a vacation to the mountains and I bought a better camera. While we were there last week I also took some time to carve as well by taking a class at Nawger Nob (SMWC). Ken Carter was the instructor and he did a tremendous job. You can google him and check out his website. Anyway.. here is what I chose to do. Any and all suggestions, critiques, praise, or condemnations are requested and expected! Mountain man...WIP. He started out as a 4x6x12 block of basswood. The pictures I have chosen show the progession to date. Much more to do yet.

Lookin goood!
I might suggest taking photos of the profile and instead of straight on photos take photos with the subject facing away slightly to one side of the camera.

Straight on photos tend to make faces look a little flat especially when there are no shadows or color to accentuate the different levels of the face.

Hey nice work, I have one tip for ya if you don't mind.
I like to wait and add the eyes later into the carving, I did the eyes to early in one and had to carve them away another time I accidentaly wrecked them while working the eyebrows, slipped .

Ron, Merle, Joy, Cannuck, ragiarn, Carl... thanks for commenting. Ragiarn pointed out that I should include a profile pic so here is one taken a little early on. Yes Carl.. got a little ahead of the process on the eyes, I usually try to maintain the same level of completeness as I work on a project and the eyes got ahead of me! I appreciate all comments and feedback... I learn from it all. Thanks!

Fred, thanks for posting the profile- I think it gives a better perspective on the subject. In the initial photos the face appeared on the flat side. He is looking good. Keep us posted on your progress. I really enjoy watching the process of carving from beginning to the end.
