| | Mountain Man in White Pine This carving of a mountain man didn't go as planned...I basically ran out of wood. I do this often where I start carving a figure too big for the amount of wood available. I had intended on putting most of a cap on this guy but I started running into two branches (knots) on other side so I didn't want to take my chances as this white pine is soft. I also planned on putting some hair and perhaps a feather on a braid...again I ran low on wood. Its pretty basic but its my second attempt at a mountain man. For a change, I use different gouges on the beard and mustache rather than a V tool. He's maybe 2.5 ft, 60-70 lbs of white pine.

| | Re: Mountain Man in White Pine Another nice one Patrick.
One thing for sure,in reading a lot about mountian men, none were soft!
But I agree with Mark, the softer edges makes for a nice carving, but I like the othr ones also. |
