I may have been silenced,, but I never stop. Like the spring many things have been popping up around me over the last several weeks. New jobs I've been bidding on and sketching. A communion rail for a private chapel in Mahogany with two carved Angels supporting it,,24 ft of Mahogany cases ,Oak capitals and turnings for the upper west side of NY city,,An Altar, tabernacle and De peux for the Bishops private residence,, A desk for the Main Line in Philadelphia which will have 5 feet of carved Wisteria arching across the front of it similar to the arches I carved for the kitchens in California, two sets of Stations that I recently restored, 12 spires for another church,, one where the entire ceiling collapsed and damaged several of the stations..besides the laundry list of little jobs that I have knocked out in between all the others. Besides that spring brought many other things such as today is the grand opening of the Sands Casino/Resort which opened just a short walk from my studio. That'll be a nice retreat when I start classes and will have something for students to visit in the evenings. It's amazing.Sands Casino - Resort | Bethlehem As well as landscaping/building projects at my various properties,,a new vegetable/herb garden ( we love gourmet cooking) and projects at my primary home. Like I said,, I don't stop. I can't ,, it's not in my nature. Like Emeril Lagasse ( to continue the food analogy) he just opened a new restaurant at the Casino and he's in town for the week. My son, a chef, got to work with him,, cool huh? But as he "kicks it up a notch,,,,BAM! I followed his lead. I too opened another "restaurant" ,, but it serves up carving dishes instead! I've collaborated with another carver whom I hold in high regard to open a new site/blog. Here we will be able to serve up ideas for you to sample that follow in the traditions/styles/techniques we enjoy. Now we generally don't offer the tried and true corner diner fare. No,, we're shooting more for the "Tavern on the Green" ( just my opinion). Though the site is still new and in it's infancy I believe it holds great potential for our growth. Projects that are a bit out of the ordinary, unique in their own way, techniques, thoughts ideas and insights etc. future video's ( if we can figure that part out,, we're still learning the ins and outs of it all,, but we'll get it) as well as the traditional question and answer part that is important to flesh out questions and ideas. Input is always important. And we'll still be here as well,,, we'll keep showing up and throwing our two cents in here and there,,, again,,, we can't stop ourselves. And just who is this "other carver"? None other than Doris Fiebig! I felt in her I see someone with an incredible talent. Someone who's thoughts and ideas very closely parallel my own. And without her the site wouldn't be what it is,, and will become due to her abilities with a computer. I'm still fumbling and making a mess of things...fortunately I keep running with ideas, photo's and stories,, and she cleans up and sorts the mess I make besides posting her own projects! She has been holding my hand so to speak and teaching me how to do this stuff. See,, she has an inate desire to help people,, even me,,, go figure! That alone put her at the top of my list. So stop by,, sample a dish or two. It may not be your particular taste or cup of tea,, but interesting none the less. Maybe you'll pick up an idea or two to kick your carvings up a notch,,, Bam! By the way,, the original topic of the Marquetry Repair is this. Not carving per say... but one of the other things I knocked out during my enforced sebatical... I thought it was fun,,,it's on the blog as well. And many if not all of the projects will find their way there as well once they hit my shop. I'll include the original sketches,, the build up and carving as they come in. Ahhh Spring,, isn't it great when new things pop up? Last edited by mark yundt; 05-21-2009 at 10:46 AM. |

This is great! What a wonderful collaboration. I just wish I could bring my PC to my carving bench... All the best, Russ |

Mark - How fortunate that you are able to pursue such interesting projects! A few years ago I was invited to collaborate with an artist in Italy on a piece which combined his marquetry with my relief carving: "Reptiles," a design by Escher. It is shown at the website noted in my public profile. It was one of the high points of my amateur woodcarving career.
