Lumbardi Poplar Wood Spirit

I too think the eyes are awesome. A tutorial would be great. I really love the two different shades in the poplar. Very nice indeed. I am going to do some research to see if it grows here locally as we are not far from each other, If not I have a few brothers living in the Halifax area, they might be able to find a stick or two. Thanks for the great carving photo's!

Tidewater....Lombard Poplar is a locally grown species, you will usually find it as a decorative tree, planted in rows because of it's unusual shape. The limbs all grow upwards fairly close along the trunk, a mature tree will grow to a height of 70'. Also called "Tower" poplar, I've often seen it on old abandon farms, used as a windbreak.

OK Great , thanks Bob, I think my wifes parents have some growing in their yard in moncton, I planted them there about 20 years ago and they are quite tall now. I think we got them from a guy down the road who didnt want them that is why I didn't know what they were. Think they would miss one? Hmmm lol Thanks again.

Thanks everyone. I was away on the weekend so I am late replying. Blake and Mary, I did plan on doing a tutorial a while back when I carved out the very large wood spirit in the apple wood. I took pictures at different stages but was disappointed in the picture quality. Perhaps I'll try again.
Tidewalker, Bob is right...there's no shortage of lumbardi poplar in the maritimes. I just wish linden was so readily available.
