| | Re: little woodspirit in progress In my opinion, it looks good like it is now. Some staining wouldn't hurt but painting? I wouldn't do it. The leaves are lighter than the rest, that's enough already, I'd say.

| | Re: little woodspirit in progress Hi Sharon, great little spirit, very good detail, personally, I'm not 100% on the addition of the leaves, I really like him with out them, being as you did such a fine job on the spirit, mind you, that's just my own peronal obsevation.

| | Re: little woodspirit in progress Thanks Kathy, Chuck, Robert and Ron for the nice comments. I'm trying to remember to take pictures as I go. That's great if it helps other carvers, plus I have a record of how I did something. I like it when others show their steps of carving something. Thanks again, sharon |

| | Re: little woodspirit in progress Thanks,Merle, Doris,Henri and Cliff for looking and commenting. Henri, staining is what I meant, heavy paint would be to much. Cliff I'm glad you liked him without the leaves. I kind of imagined him fluttering around the forest with his little leaf wings, checking things out. My husband said I should frame his face with more leaves. Not exactly sure how I'll finish him, but I'm having fun experimenting with him. I appreciate all the nice comments and advice from you all....sharon |

| | Re: little woodspirit in progress After looking at and holding my little woodspirit everyday for the last two months I finally stained and painted him last week. Today I put a combination of minwax tung oil finish, minwax woodsheen and danish oil finish, all 3 natural color, I used 3 coats. His eyes look better in person. The stain and paint I used was my jacquard textile paints, thinned down alot. hope you all like him, I do. |

| | Re: little woodspirit in progress Hi Sharon,
Wow! What an incredible "wood spirit" you have created. The finish is superb and the coloring is terrific.
I think his face is beautiful.
Great job. |

| | Re: little woodspirit in progress Thankyou Ron, I'm glad you like him. I really like carving cypress. It holds detail pretty well( with sharp tools, mine aren't) and it's not super hard. I want to carve a stick out of it. |
