Default Lily Cross Spoon - WIP

My current carving project is creating a spoon for as a gift for a family member. This is carved from basswood.

My plans for finishing are to use stain on the cross, a deep teak or possibly chestnut, and to use watered down acrylics to paint the lily and the bowl of the spoon.

Would anyone like to see the inbetween steps too or just the finished product?

Right now I have a whitewash on the lily and bowl. I hope to get the colours onto the lily tonight. Tomorrow will be the stain.

I've finally finished. The colours were added and allowed to dry, then I took a 1500 grit sandpaper to it to "rough" the paint a bit. I used a spray polyurethane to seal it. AS an experiment I used a thin layer of orange oil and wax over the poly. I haven't decided if it did anything much less whether it was positive or negative.

Kitaye,
That spoon is just beautiful. Sure to be an heirloom. I have been carving spoons lately, but they are not good enough to post pics. Anyway, you did a terrific job on it. Thanks for sharing.
