Pictured below is my next carving challenge. It is a design by Scott Kim, a young man who was called "the Escher of the Alphabet" by Isaac Asimov. The words "true" and "false" are superimposed. Kim commented, "Is there truth in every falsity, or is it that every falsity is based on a truth?" I will be carving the words in Yellow Cedar, 5" x 11" kimtype.jpg |

What a great design! I'll have to research Mr. Kim.

The man is truely a philosophical master. What is falsity if we know no truth? To what do we base truth upon? Is ones truth the same or similar to another's? If one claims a comment true or false, does that mean that all must believe? Why did the chikhen cross the road? Why is a duck? Thoughts. I'll be curious to see this in a finished state Bob |

Here is an early progress photo. The letters will be raised, about 1/4" above the background, and embellished with grooves and rosettes. The word "true" will be stained to contrast with the word "False." Tools: Knife, #5-12 gouge, #3-3 gouge kimtype3.JPG |

Hi Phil, Looks to be a pretty neat project. I like the embellishing you're planning on the letters too! Mark |

Nice work so far! Too early in the morning for me to be philosophical!
