Default Row boat carving, new painting technique... for me

I carved this little boat for a nautical project I have in mind in memory of my deceased granddaddy. He was working in a boat building company, and he was also building boats for himself and carving a lot. He was always busy woodworking, and I inherited his taste for wood.

He died a long time ago at 81 and I feel him closer to me this year, and I don't know why.

Anyway, I used basswood and it is 4.25" long, painted with water based Golden Acrylic paint and I applied a coat of BLO&mineral spirit 2:1+Burnt Sienna on top of it.

As you can see it has a shine from the BLO that reflects light.

Btw, a first wash of a greenish color was applied with a brush first and then I used an airbrush to add a touch of brown.

(I will take a sharper photo for the top view later...)

Thanks for looking,

Gilles

No, no ,no... just use it in a scene with a sailor and a few other things.

When I used water on it when I painted it, the wood warped a bit and I had to re-glue the 2 seats. So no more water on it...

Gilles
