| | Just A Little Pinch-II Managed to finish the body this afternoon. He's looking real good. Had to go to WalMart to buy a package of Redman to see just how the pouch and plug looked and worked in the hands. The hands were the hardest part of this figure. That was the first tobacco purchase I made since 1989 when I quit the leaf permanently. To make sure I would not be overcome by the temptation of the pouch's contents I immediately opened it up and dumped it in the stores closest trash can. I'm sure the people behind us in the checkout line wondered what the hell I was doing!
Once home, I made the Redman pouch out of copper so I could bend it to look like the paper pouch. The pouch has a wooden bottom which will be doweled to his hand. I temporarily filled the pouch with some small leather clippings and wadded up some more to make the wad in his hand. It makes for a good effect so just might use that medium for the final product but will harden it somehow to make it permanent.
I'm giving thought to temporarily mounting the figure by himself so I can enter the piece in the upcoming Wichita show. Don't have time to finish a horse by this Thursday. Also, have decided to have the horse hanging his head over the fence or gate vs. out of the barn door. Did a small mock-up of a barn side and didn't like it. A fence would allow the viewer to see the horse standing behind the figure.
Anyway, the project is well on track with the hardest part behind me I hope. |

| | Re: Just A Little Pinch-II Go Lynn, go! I'm getting anxious to see the entire scenario, including the horse.
Hey, your figure has got one foot up like it is propped on a fence, and you want the horse to hang his head over the fence, why not have the horse hanging over the guy's shoyulder as well, like he is trying to get at the chaw?
Or is that the plan anyway? | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
