There is just something about this one that makes me want to keep going. Then there's the cost of the Basswood...I'm learning making my mistakes as I go along. | | Re: Indian With Wolf Headress WIP Lookin' good Kathy. Sometimes things look a little out of wack during the initial wood removal but they usually correct themselves as more wood is removed. |

| | Re: Indian With Wolf Headress WIP Hey Kathy -
I like the fact that he doesn't have the stereotypical shorter face. Gives him his own character. As for the Racoon/Bear - well they are pretty closely related species (same family, or genus or something) if I recall correctly. Actually - maybe the racoon would fit better with a "lean times" NA. ;-)
Keep up the great work & thanks for sharing it.

| | Re: Indian With Wolf Headress WIP Hello Lynn & Chuckt, thank you both for your comments. I really appreicate the suggestions from both of you. I'll be working more on the face, Lynn I probably won't take to much more off the face. I don't feel confident in my carving ability to remove much more wood. I'm going to work on the lips and complete the eyes. Then evaluate...
Chuckt, thank you, for your perspective also. I like the lean look also, and you are right the racoon fits the theme well. My doggie has a stuffed fairly realistic raccoon toy that just might fit the reference bill. I also have some animal books I can look at too. I like the idea of the black mask of the racoon--would add interest.
Thanks again, guys,
Kathy |

| | Re: Indian With Wolf Headress WIP Kathy, I really think you have done a great job on this one and for one, would not change it. I like it and I also think you "DO" have the ability to change it if you want. Don't cut yourself short Gal. |

| | Re: Indian With Wolf Headress WIP Hi Kathy: Looks like a great start on your Indian. About 5 years ago, I did a Jeff Phares Indian with wolf headress for a friend of mine. Needless to say it was a hit! It's a great project and I'll look forward to seeing your finished piece.

Ed | Hi Ed, thank you. I'm a native Texan too, but was transplanted to California at a tender age. Now, retired and living with my hubby and Jack Russell Terrier K.T in Prescott Valley, AZ.
Jeff Phares is a wonderful carver and I have three of his books. Another really good carver/instructor is Mark Gargac, who contributes to this site. I took a 2 day workshop from him at Creede, CO. last year. Super instructor!
Do you have any pictures you could share of your Phares Indian? I love to see it. Your 'Avatar' is just super!
