| | Indian With Wolf Headress WIP 4"x8"x14" Basswood Block
Using step by step instruction from Jeff Phares book 'Carving Faces' ![004[1]](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/004[1].gif) It took me 1 hour to rough-out both sides using my mallet tools. That was enough for one day. LOL The next day I started roughing-out the wolf headdress and face outline. This one will go slow, as it's to large to bring in the house. Our weather here has been very cold, snowed yesterday. My garage/work shop has a heater, but it just takes so long to warm things up.
So, I'll have to be patient and work as the weather permits.
As always I appreciate your comments.

| | Re: Indian With Wolf Headress WIP Kathy, this is a great project (IMHO) one I learned so much from, great instruction through out the book and process, in fact I keep a copy in the top drawer of my work station for reference from time to time.
Have fun and keep posting photo's of your progress, I enjoy watching start to finish, it's also fun to look back and see where and how far you come along the way. |

| | Re: Indian With Wolf Headress WIP Hi Mike & Tony, thank you both for taking a look at my Indian. HA, Mike yep no one gets in my way when I've got ![004[1]](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/004[1].gif) mallet in hand. Boy what a mess I made-- in the images it really doesn't show all the wood chips. A lot of work, but well worth it! I'll update as I get further along. Hi Tony, that is one gourgous Indian in your Avatar too. I recall yours from an earlier post and thought at the time what a wonderful carving. I think this one is going to take me a while to complete.
I hope you and others will step in an give me pointer's as I go along. I love this style of carving and I too keep Jeff's book close at hand. I even bought two other books by him one Carving Eyes and the other Carving The Nose & Mouth. The only one I don't have is Carving Ears and Hair. LOL
Thanks again guys,
Kathy |

| | Re: Indian With Wolf Headress WIP So Kathy...you've increased the scale of your carving from your earlier version of NA Indian and headress. I did the same carving a while back...at least my version as I tended to go my own way once I started. This has been a popular carving. Look forward to seeing yours take shape.

Patrick | Hi Patrick, yep getting braver, going bigger the carving that is....LOL
Your right this has been a popular carving and I bet all feel the same way about learning a lot. I think it's great to see everyone put their own spin on the carving. I'll probably stick to the steps as much a possible as I need to learn how it's done. Then, I can start finding my own way/and or style.
Feel free to give pointer's too! Please
Thanks again,
Patrick |

| | Re: Indian With Wolf Headress WIP Hi All, bet you thought I'd given up on this one for sure. NOT! LOL Just other projects getting in the way. Here is where I'm at now, I think I've come a long way. I actually had to go looking for this thread, so I could keep it all together. At this point I'm still deciding what goes where as it relates to the clothing. Regarding the headdress I think it looks more like a raccoon than a wolf. So may just go with a raccon head dress. I know my Indian looks long in the face, but it's my fault not his. LOL Well, guess that's all for now, as always I appreciate your thoughts and comments. Kathy Just had to laugh from the side the headdress kinda looks like a bear. Whats a gal to do, yeah I know take lessons! LOL

| | Re: Indian With Wolf Headress WIP Looking Good Mottles. It isn't to late to shorten the face some. Not all NA have fat/short faces. This one looks like he had fallen on lean times.Keep up the great work. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
