Thanks everyone! I appreciate the comments. It's basswood and I'm really surprised the way the grain stands out. I finished it by first applying the BLO and and then came back and painted his hair and braids with acrylic washes. On the wolf I did a wash of gray and a wash of white, and then I dry brushed some charcoal gray on there to give the highlights. Tonight I am going to spray it with Deft and finish it up. I think it probably would have looked better if the eyes were carved closer together and if I had a woodburner to separate the areas that were painted. Oh well, I'm my worst critic!
