| | Indian Pony Here's a preview of a project I'm working on. He stands about 8" high and will be joined by a Warrior fully decked and armed for battle. The stirrups are attached with copper strips inserted under the blanket. |

| | Re: Indian Pony You guys have been watching too many movies and TV shows where the Indian just throws a blanket over the back of his horse and takes off across the prairie. Sorry, that really wasn't the way it was. The Indian got his introduction to horsemanship from the Spaniards who rode with saddles equipped with stirrups. As romantic as it may sound or look it's extremely difficult to stay on the back of a horse with no kind of support. Do a little research and you'll find all kinds of Native American saddles with stirrups. You'll also find other horse decorations that look a lot like the armor used by the spaniards, i.e., head covers, breast plates, and rear aprons. As they didn't have access to metal they did the best they could with the materials at hand.....leather and decoration. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
