| | Re: Indian Mask with Wolf Cape Blake, you've got a great start there. Here the pictures coming. I like to see different people carving the same thing. It's amazing the different looks a carving can have and still be the same.
I wouldn't worry about which sweeps or how big. I've got the book and I carved it full size with nothing bigger then a #7 14mm.
Can't with to see it finished.

great start on the mask, you have done a good job at blocking it out..jeff has several other books on just the parts of the face that what i have seen of them is good reference material.

| | Re: Indian Mask with Wolf Cape Thanks everyone for your comments! I'm pretty pleased on how it has turned out so far. I think I will probably try it again on a bigger piece of wood the next time.
Thanks Mark for going into so much detail! I agree that sometimes I am afraid to take too much off because I know that I can't put it back. I probably need some formal training on this topic to help me get away from that fear. I will be sure to post some more pictures as I progress with the piece.
Thanks again! I really do appreciate you taking the time to comment!

| | Re: Indian Mask with Wolf Cape Great work, Blake! I think you are right on track. Perhaps a bit of undercut under the front of the wolf's headpiece just above the lad's forehead? It would give it more defination and look like it's sitting better. The wolf pelt would be like a cap, not like a wooden mask.
How are you planning on finishing it?
Great work....woops, said that already. But worth repeating.

| | Re: Indian Mask with Wolf Cape I'll probably try to finish it the same way that Jeff finishes his in the book. Probably use a stain and then use oil paints thinned down for the braids, the wolf, and the necklace.
It appears as though his eyes are too far apart which really bothers me....anyone have any suggestions as to how I can fix this the next time.....or is it just me??

| | Re: Indian Mask with Wolf Cape Hi Blake,
Are you fairly new at this? I see this book at Amazon for a real low price and I'm thinking about doing something like this down the road but add veining around the face to show traditional native New Zealand maori tattoo's. Should make for an interesting mask or face.
Thanks again for the inspiration to try this out,
