Default Indian Girl

Hi All, beginning a new project, something I've been thinking about for a long time. I've been doing a bit of pre-planning and thought I'd share what I have done so far.

I began with a few sketches and decided on the one I show. From there I decided to make a small 10" Tall plastine clay model. The wood I'm going to use is a 16" Tall found Aspen limb. I have began to draw in the body divisions head etc.

Well, guess that is all for now, as always I appreciate hearing from you.
Kathy

PS: As you can see I haven't added the bag yet......over-sight

Hi Kathy,

What a wonderful job you've done so far. Little wond3er why your carvings come out so we3ll. All that prep work. I really like you sketch. You could even frame that when you're done. I can't wait to see the steps.

hello kathy, that is a lovely design. i like the pose, and the folds, it looks very promising... i notice you changed the body proportion in the clay from the drawing, was this intentional to give a diferent spirit than the drawing ?

Good Morning Everyone.

First of all, I don't want to mislead anyone by the design. My sketch is based on a Curtis image--here is a link for you to view http://memory.loc.gov/award/iencurt/cp07/cp07027v.jpg I did make some changes, but do not consider the design totally my making.
This link is a wonderful reference and source guide for Indian clothing, hair style, jewelry etc. Edward S. Curtis's North American Indian (American Memory, Library of Congress)

Gene, thank you I'm going to work my hardest to make this one a keeper.

Ron T, thank you for your nice compliment--actually this is the first clay model I've made for a carving. As I hadn't carved a full figure before I wanted a little model to help me along the way.

Doris, thank you too, in answer to your questions I didn't feel the need to create a 16" inch tall clay model. The sketch is a blow up of my original 7.5 inch tall sketch. I wanted a blow-up of the sketch which would be full size of the planned carving. The clay model was created after I did the blow-up just as another guide.

Joy, thank you too, it's going to be a challenge.

Dave, HA, what a keen eye you have!

Simplyme, thank you, clay models are a super way of seeing and working out problems before you even begin a carving. I plan to do more of them.

no kathy, that was not what i meant... my impression is (but i might be wrong since the camera might distort) that in your claymodel, the relation of upperbody to lowerbody is longer than on the drawing, meaning the waist on your claymodel seems sit lower...

Hi Doris, sorry--it does have some distortion if you look at the left view image I think it's more in line with the drawing. The clay model isn't exact to the sketch and wasn't meant to be.
