| | Indian Here's an Indian about 10" tall including the base, carved from Basswood and painted with oils. All I lack is painting the Tomahawk. I wanted to carve and paint a Hawk feather hanging from the handle but I have done that in the past and they are so fragile that they always got broken off. I'm thinking about trying to hang it from close to the head and lay it down his sleeve. Whatcha think?

| | Re: Indian Hi Doug nice work on your Indian. Just a suggestion how about drilling a hole in the handle--wrap the feather shaft with raw hide and attach the feather using the raw hide. Then cover the hole with a brass nail or even add a pattern of brass nail head around the area for design. Sorry I can visualize what I'm thinking, but hard to put it into understable wording. No even, forget the brass nails and just use the rawhide wrap. No glueing needed.

| | Re: Indian Fine looking Indian, Doug. As usual, another good carving. If I were you, I'd try the feather along the sleeve. Can't hurt and it may help in determining patterns for future carvings. I would have to disagree with Kathy about the rawhide wrap, however. This is just my personal opinion but a wood carving should be all wood. That's the same thing as tying a rag around a carved dog's neck. It just shouldn't be done. I'm sure many would disagree but that is just how I feel about it.

You can always use a thin piece of brass sheet for the feather.... |

| | Re: Indian As for "everything" being wood, sorry don't go along with that one either...try doing the grass on something like this out of wood! I did the breast and topknot feathers out of wood, never again...next time they will be sheet brass! |
