| | Re: homage to mucha - wip thank you all for your encouraging words, these mean alot to me :-)
susie, i followed your advise with make tools really sharp, and it goes better :-) i am sharpening not enough anyway, too lazy, and in usual circumstances cuts are clean this way too. but here it makes a whole difference . thanks !! ...
i did carve the flowers today, these were fun, despite the difficulties with the arkward places..some small "design changes" happened too ;-) ...lol...... next i will carve the face, as you can see this is still very rough... thanks for looking and commenting |

| | Re: homage to mucha - wip Doris, you sound like me, I do not like sharpening very much... but you will be able to better "attack" the hard reachable places and the grain. Your carving looks very nice, I like the flowers following the edge, your curls should be good - you got the "Mucha" lines right.
Fred PS: My avatar is a cut out from a decorative panel I carved - found inspiration in Fine Stones, this one is Emerald - changed face and design, kept the body position. |

| | Re: homage to mucha - wip hi fred, thanks for letting me know about your avatar, so i was a little off, did not know those posters, that is i did know only topas, but have now looked them. beautiful, and nice way how you made it your own too...
so, this might be the last post before i finish... (sorry the lightning is so very poor this time)...the face is there, she got my nose (not the best choice i admit ;-)), but still need cut the eye, and maybe i want change expression a little too... i cleaned up the difficult places as good as i can, and worked on the backpart mainly then...
i made an experiment, and would like to know your opinion on it...
in drawing there are several ways how you can make your strokes, to emphasis the nature of what you are drawing... i tried this in this carving too. when you look the decorative ribbon on her bun is cut with very "hard" edges, to give it a sharpness and clearity, while the hair on her back head, i tried to carve the lines "more out of focus" to give the feeling of soft hair which is slightly in motion from a soft breeze... do you think this works, or do you rather feel irritated from the "non-sharpness" of the hair lines |

| | Re: homage to mucha - wip Doris, I only have praise for your carvings thus far. I have never carved a profile so I am learning as you share your progress. I'm waiting to see how you maintain the look of a cheekbone while the finer parts of the face take shape. It's there below the eye from what I see so far. Another thing, with all the faces I have carved, I have never carved an ear yet. My gargoyle will have them eventually. The next shots should be impressive. Good work.
