| | homage to mucha - wip since i spoke to kathy (thanks !) i feeled i now really want try this carving... this is long time in my head, i have carved a somewhat similar like that in stone as a pendant, but somehow i not dared to start carving it in wood (its a different design) ... but the basrelief of my friend was a strict sideview also, though this will be high relief, this gives me courage to try ... for today, not much to show, just the final scetch, and the work i done today, cutting it from the main plank of wood, and lower the background somewhat already |

| | Re: homage to mucha - wip Yippe Doris you go girl! Time you got this one out of your head an onto/into some wood. Looks like you have a great start, and you know I'll be following along. Just remember carve with your heart and soul and let that inner voice guide you.

| | Re: homage to mucha - wip Doris, just keep in mind how beautiful it's gonna look when it's finished (and I know it will) Please make sure you post it when it is done, it should be a beauty.

| | Re: homage to mucha - wip hi kathy, thanks for joining in the fun :-)
tucker, hello :-) yes, i will sure post the final, i am planning on sharing quite some steps too...we will see
a not so pleasant surprise today when carving, is pretty hard stuff, but vey crumbly ... luckily it is on the backside of her head, and maybe i can change design a little so that it remains under the top surface so to say...i had to do this with st andrew too, his lower right part of beard is almost hollow, i carved down to that hollow as far as i dared. only one tiny spot i misjudged, and one can see a tiny hole... lol...well, in this case, if it grows when i carve further , i will restart the carving... |

| | Re: homage to mucha - wip just cut out a plug, whatever shape will fit into the carving plan, lay the plug on your blank and draw around it or router it out... |

| | Re: homage to mucha - wip It looks like an interesting project Doris...much more attractive than the gargoyle I'm working on. Keep us up to date on your progress.

| | Re: homage to mucha - wip thanks, for the tip with the plug, hi ho. i will remember, and might need here. but this thingy, iwas so very lucky, i carved deeper and it grew smaller, and vanished :-)...still the wood is a little crumbly there, but i think that will be ok. i dont want much detail there anyway...
i have cut the main outlines. i cut rather tight, except for the face line. i let that very loose, since i want have "room for carving"... and started some very basic shaping...carving the outlines was work, now fun begins :-) |

| | Re: homage to mucha - wip Doris, this will be interesting to watch - especially because I love Alfons Mucha - if you take a closer look at my Avatar you can tell...
