Default Here is an update and better picture on the headdress and mask

I’ve completed about 90% of the headdress to this point.

I chose to not shrivel or carve the nose to look dehydrated like it would on a real skin. I figured it just wouldn’t look right…IMO.

When I’m in the basement carving, about every fifteen minutes or so, one of our two mini Dachshunds makes a visit to the basement to check on me…sooooo, I took each opportunity to try and study their nose…LOL
They weren’t to keen on me holding their snout and pulling their lips back…grin…but dang if they aren’t the right size for a study aid on this part of the project.

I've also started working on the hair wraps.

It's looking like my next couple of evenings are all filled up but I am taking Friday off so if I can get the "honeydo" list done early I may have half a day to carve

anyway I thought this picture turned out kinda cool

It really came together for you Tony - very nice. The Native American Indian features has so much character. I hope to attempt another one myself in the new year. Now you need to carve a bushman to go with this carving.

Thanks my fellow carvers

I have five consecutive days off over Christmas so I’m going try and push through and finish the carving part of this project. I’m still not sure on the finish though. Debating on finishing it like Jeff did in the book or like Mark does his.

Patrick, Is a bushman anything like the mountain man? I was thinking I might try Marks mask again only make it a little larger to be about the same size as this one.

Tony, Seems everybody "nailed" this one. I can only add my vote to the consensus. Tom H

Yes they are one in the same. Mountain man is perhaps the proper name. I have referred to Mark's work a number of times when I did my mountain men carvings. Can't say mine look anything like his but they are a great reference. Your book by Phares has some mountain men in the photo gallery as well.
