Whoever told you it wasn't very good was/is very wrong. Two very nice carvings. I kinda lean towards give him a hat somewhere.

Ginny I think you've done a fantastic job.One idea would be a hat on a string around his neck that hangs on his back and I kinda liked the idea of putting it on the horse too.No hat is fine too.It's a mind bogglin thang but you've already done good no matter what else you do.

Great, esp on the horse, animals give me fits! I do think maybe it is best to learn how to carve the face and eyes before the brims of the hats get in your way. Then you know the angles needed for the eyes, but I am no professional. Nice job.
