Default Griffin(another Griffin) wip

When my friend refurbished an old oak fireplace she asked me to carve a heraldic griffin, part of the family coat of arms, to form part of the design.
Strictly speaking it is a griffin passant, not ducally gorged. Its just the sort of thing to take on holiday where I can finish it in the French mountains. That is if I can tear myself away from the volcanos of the Ardeche, my grandson and the village bar. So far the background has been routed back and stopcuts have been made round the design. The rest can wait a bit

Well! He looks good to me even if he isn't "ducally gorged". <grin> I am going to have to google that phrase and see what it means

Off to a great start Peter! Thanx for sharing your pictures with us. I am glad to see how you routed the background.

Joy --thanks for the comments. To save you a google search, not ducally gorged is heraldry speak for not having a duke's coronet round it's neck (like on the diagram on the bench)

Back from the Ardeche with the little griffin ready to go to his final position on the old fireplace to find that my son had put a kink in my last bandsaw blade and had let my bike battery go flat!! The battery was easily charged up and I set off to blow the cobwebs out of the engine and me.

Luckily I was going along slow enough to see a gang of tree surgeons at work. After a brief chat they pointed out a pile of small leafed lime logs and invited me to help myself. I didn't know if this was the same as Doris's winter linden or summer linden but I stuck a log on the back of the bike anyway and came home for more suitable transport so I could get some more. Now I've got a pile of logs drying out waiting for some appropriate commission. On the other hand if you live near here you are welcome to come and collect one.
