This comes from WCI issue #47, summer '09... My niece just celebrated her 13th B-day...She loves wolves.... I thought this would be fun to show in process... Here's the roughing out... Hi Jim, outstanding carving on the wolf and you have what looks like a really good reference book on wolves. The only thing I could recommend and it's only my approach to painting the wolf's coat. I would have first put down a very dark black undercoat using Ultramarine Blue and Burnt Umber. Then start building the mid and top coat. The darker undercoat really helps build the other gray values and shadowns you will add. I love the base too, looks like cottonwood? Looking forward to seeing the finish

Excellent carving. I think your niece will be pleased. Your carving methods are well done. I like the hold down, using a jorgenson clamp in a bench vise, goo idea.
