Hey Doris
I too am anxiously waiting to see the progress on this one, but you take your time. I have a feeling it will be worth the wait. Feminine features are definitely outside my "comfort zone" . Thankyou for sharing

hi thank you all for looking and joinig in the fun! i hope i can meet the high expectations ;-)

the remark on the tilt and rotation of head hit the point. i needed sometime to reconsider how i want her to have. and, i want her have more closely to the drawing, since the position of head is part of the expression, somehow.... so, today, i gathered all my courage i could find, and tried to rotate her head, and also tilt it a little bit. is getting better, but needs work. i still see her within the wood, so nothing to worry in moment... hope you not get scared by the drastic change. the first foto is a full frontal foto, the second foto, i tried to mach the camera angle from the last foto i showed, so you can compare better what i changed, if you like ...

Doris....Nice work so far. I have a couple of observations I'll pass along. The first thing I noticed that might help is to reduce the chin and jowl. In your drawing that line is the basic outline of that area but it doesn't show any of the actual muscle definition.

While you're still just roughing it out as you're working on the mouth I'd suggest indicating the corners of the mouth before I'd do the seperation line between the upper and lower lip as that's the most evident feature of the mouth when it's closed.

When you're working on the eyes remember that the lower lid is normally stationary with the upper lid being the one that moves to open the eye. In other words the upper lid will show a much greater arc over the eyeball than the lower one. A small detail but a very important one.

You're well on your way to another great carving and I can't wait to see it finished.

Hey Doris -

Looking really nice. It is still not quite there in terms of matching the drawing - BUT - I don't think I would try to go any further in that direction at this point. I would just work with what you have, which is nice in an of itself.

I agree with Lynn's comment about reducing the chin and jowel a little.

Keep posting your progress pics. Enjoying greatly.

thank you everybody...so many feedback is very encouraging... and thank you lynn for the tips. yes, i did not work enough on chin so far, this will be next. and yes, the drawing is mainly outline, but i use a mirror often, so i can look how it should look like, approximately... thanks. ... chuck, i might turn the head more, but in moment i leave it as is. it is still rough, and still enough wood, i think. i like the exploring. we will see....

Doris,
Nice work. I like to watch how different folks get the face to evolve. If I was doing that face I would make the cheekbones a little more prominent. I only carve caricatures and tend to exxagerate features so consider this merely food for thought!
