Smile greenman

i am going to carve a greenman in basrelief... ever since i saw mark´s wonderful greenman i wanted to carve one too. i have done a greenwoman in my first year of carving whicch you see in my avatar, but the greenman was always still tickling me... now, i have the great oak board, i decided to finally carve him...

this is after the first 4 hours of carving, does not look like too much, ...my excuse is, the wood is oak, and a very hard one too. the same i used for the vegetables, so i am really looking forward to see this carving finished,,,and if only to see the wood with the nice finish...lol...

more infos (this time for making pattern / or design drawings) on the blog, i will post several steps here, as expect this carving to take some time... comments, and questions are always welcome...

Excellent, Doris! I had just this morning, dug out a partially worked greenman that I had started a couple of months ago. Thinking about giving him another chance. It's good to see that our great minds are thinking alike.... looks like you have already established some important, basic shapes. I look forward to watching you work your magic.

I just finished one in the form of a mask. I used layers of Ivy leaves and you can see two places around the eyes, and one spot on the side of the face I left flesh colored to give the effect of a person behind the leaves.

Doris, that's a very original design for your greenman. That's going to be quite stunning when you finish. I can't wait.
